The Imperial Guard's artillery train was one of the units established by Napoleon I within his Grande Armée. A major innovation, this unit allowed for the rapid transport of artillery pieces from one location to another, whether in the field or on the battlefield itself. The Imperial Guard, with the growing importance of its artillery, had to quickly be equipped with this elite corps and from 1800, it could benefit from a train service. The First Empire gave Napoleon the opportunity to equip this new weapon of the artillery train with a real backbone and the Imperial Guard unit was then brought to the forefront.
